Filippo Tortu stronger than the rain: final in the 200m
The words of Filippo Tortu
Stronger than the rain, which delayed his semifinal by nearly twenty minutes and continued to rage as he rested on the blocks.
Filippo Tortu’s impact with this European Championships is quality: with a time of 20.29 (-0.1) in unfavorable conditions he wins his own semifinal and signs the third overall time of the round, qualifying for the first 200 final of his career. The 24-year-old from Brianza draws a good turn and then emerges in the sprint phase, again leaving behind ‘that’ Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, the same Briton with whom he dueled in Tokyo in the epic comeback that delivered gold to the Italian relay team.
“The final was the goal and I’m satisfied to have achieved it, if only slightly. I don’t think I did a good race, I didn’t run as I wanted to, tomorrow for a medal we will need much more: I won’t have to make any mistakes. I can improve in everything, starting with the start: especially the first 120 meters are to be perfected. I think Hughes is the favorite, along with Afrifah, but I like to think that we all start from the same point.”
