F1, Ferrari: Mekies no-nonsense about Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz and Mattia Binotto
Laurent Mekies speaking.
Laurent Mekies, Ferrari’s Racing Director, spoke to the official Formula 1 channels about the Rossa’s first half of the season, sweeping away any possible doubts as much about the drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, as about team principal Mattia Binotto.
“The spirit within the team is very high,” Mekies said, “because people like Charles, Carlos and Mattia are capable of leading the team in any situation. Of course there can be good or bad moments, but their leadership makes the difference.”
“They are capable,” the Ferrari executive added, “of hitting the reset button no matter what happens, to team up, review what happened, learn from mistakes and look to the next race with a smile and motivation.
Then dwelling in detail on Leclerc’s season, Mekies commented, “So far he has shown great speed on the track, that is an indisputable aspect. Charles doesn’t need us, being a great driver, to understand what he needs to get closer and closer to the limit. Mistakes? They can happen to everyone; however, I would not look at those, but at the percentage of things succeeded well, which is very very high this year. I really don’t think he needs to make any changes.”
