Ario Costa won the Golden Retina
Ario Costa is one of the winners of the special awards of the 2022 edition of the Retina d’Oro. The ceremony was held today, Tuesday, August 23, at the Pesaro City Hall in the presence of authorities and media.
The award ceremony follows the one in Trento on May 23 to Luigi Longhi president of Aquila Basket Trento and to Salvatore Trainotti former general manager and now general manager of Fip’s national team sector. Last July 26 in Bologna, on the other hand, it was presented to Card. Matteo Zuppi, Archbishop of Bologna and President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, a special Golden Retina for the Shrine of Our Lady of the Bridge in Porretta Terme, who has been the Patron Saint of Italian basketball for a few weeks now.
In presenting the award, Retina d’Oro President Mauro Rufini commented, “With this award we wanted to honor the competitive and managerial career of one of the most important players and personalities of Italian basketball, Ario Costa. We did it today in Pesaro, a historic city of Italian basketball, with the club where he wrote important pages in the life of the club and became a symbol of it, recognition to the person and his values on and off the court. The retirement of the No. 14 jersey last April the seal of a unique career in this city and with this team.”
“I am very proud of this very valuable recognition. I am really honored, I hope I have deserved it and will deserve it in the future. The trophy is really beautiful, the net is one of the symbols of basketball,” revealed Ario Costa, after receiving the award.
