F1, official: Daniel Ricciardo leaves McLaren early. Replacement decided
Rumors confirmed, Ricciardo leaves McLaren a year before end of contract: Piastri in his place
Daniel Ricciardo is leaving McLaren ahead of the end of his contract. The Australian driver will say goodbye to the British team at the end of 2022, after two bad years in which he never really managed to compete on a level playing field with Lando Norris. In his place will come Piastri.
This is the official note: “McLaren Racing and Daniel Ricciardo have mutually agreed that Daniel will leave the team at the end of the 2022 season. The team would like to thank Daniel for his commitment and contribution, including the memorable win at Monza. We look forward to concluding the season together. Daniel’s contract for 2023 has been terminated early, as both parties have mutually agreed that he will leave the team at the end of the season. Daniel joined McLaren in 2021, and during his tenure with the team he has experienced a number of milestones, including winning the 2021 Italian Grand Prix at Monza. McLaren was the only team to achieve a one-two finish last season, taking fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship. The team will confirm the full driver lineup for 2023 in due course.”
