Marcell Jacobs, another disappointment: at the Diamond League he won’t be there
After the injury, more bad news.
Marcell Jacobs had to stop at the European Championships in Munich because of a minor calf injury that could be resolved within a week. So there was a chance for him to get active again right away, but that will not be possible at the Diamond League finals on Sept. 8 in Zurich.
In fact, the organizers of the Swiss event, the last major international athletics competition of the season, decided to go their own way by not granting the Olympic champion the wild card that would have guaranteed his participation. The latter, in fact, remains available only to athletes of Swiss nationality.
The other chance for Marcell Jacobs to qualify for the Diamond League was by entering the top eight athletes of the year, via then performance this season. Which, however, precisely because of injuries has been poor in results for him. And so in Zurich the Olympic gold medalist will not be able to compete.
