Serena Williams open-hearted: “I was thinking and crying.”
During the Archetypes podcast, Serena Williams recalled with great emotion the moment when she wrote her farewell letter to tennis: “It was not very easy. I was in Switzerland, I was sitting in the hotel at the desk. I was writing, I was erasing, I was thinking, and then I was crying, and tears were streaming down my face.”
“It was a very hard time, if I think back I still get emotional. It’s strange because I’ve been playing since I can’t remember and I’m 40 years old now, so my whole life has been lived for a purpose. I honestly can’t wait to wake up one day and not have to worry about performing at such a high level and competing anymore.”
Serena Williams is now preparing to play her last US Open: “It will definitely be very emotional. How am I going to keep from crying? Maybe if I can get through a couple of rounds, then I will feel better, but I think at first it will be difficult because if I get eliminated it will be for the last time.”
