US Open, Matteo Berrettini’s first-round opponent changes

No longer will Hugo Dellien be Matteo Berrettini’s opponent in the first round of the 2022 US Open. The Bolivian tennis player, in fact, confirmed through his social channels that he will not take part in the slam scheduled in Flushing Meadows due to wrist problems.

“I’ll be brief, I won’t mince words,” Dellien began on Instagram. My wrist is giving me more problems than expected: therefore, together with my team, we have decided that the best thing is to skip the US Open all remaining tournaments in 2022. I consider my season over.”

Berrettini will now have to wait until the end of the qualifying tournament to know the name of his new opponent in the first round: it may be one of the winners of the preliminary round draw or a lucky loser.
