F1 Ferrari, Carlos Sainz sounds the alarm: “I am bewildered.”
Carlos Sainz will start from first place in Belgium, but he’s not smiling: ‘Bewildered by gap with Verstappen’
Carlos Sainz will start from the first place on the grid in the Belgian Grand Prix, but after qualifying at Spa he is not smiling: Max Verstappen was the fastest driver, but will start from 14th place due to penalties. The Spaniard pointed out that the gap from Red Bull is worrying: “I am baffled by the gap so big from Max and Red Bull. This makes me wonder how tomorrow will go. Our race pace is better than in qualifying, but we will definitely have to find something.”
“The lap was pretty good, I’m happy to start on pole but not so happy to see the gap to Max and the advantage Red Bull has over us. We have to keep analyzing to understand why Red Bull is so fast on this track and we are so far behind. Starting on pole is the best thing though, we will try to win tomorrow.”
On the team’s performance in Q3: “My first attempt in Q3 was cleaner. The second launch lap, on the other hand, was a bit of a mess. I was in front and had no slipstream, so we messed up a bit. But the first lap was enough for P2, which I knew would give me pole.”
