F1, Haas freezes Mick Schumacher: “Ricciardo can be better”
Haas team principal Steiner to Mick Schumacher: “If you want to leave, do it.”
Haas team principal Gunther Steiner told Bild about the possible arrival of Daniel Ricciardo to replace Mick Schumacher: “Who says Mick is leaving? That’s what the media say, not me. I say everything is open. Schumacher elsewhere? If he wants to leave, do it. It will mean that it will have been our fault and we will look for other solutions. Right now my job is to think about who can be better than him, and it is not easy. Ricciardo could be better than him if he returns to his old form.”
The U.S. team boss confirmed contacts with the Australian: “I wrote to Daniel at the end of August. Both Hulkenberg and Ricciardo could be a risky choice. As indeed would anyone but Hamilton or Verstappen. I agree that I think Mick is the lesser risk. But that doesn’t mean we rule out taking the lesser risk. If Mick drives in the next three races as he did in Austria, the decision will be automatic.”
