Jannik Sinner struggled through the first round of the Us Open against Altmaier

Sweaty victory for Jannik Sinner against German Daniel Altmaier, who was beaten after five sets and nearly four hours of play in the first round of the Us Open. The South Tyrolean tennis player analyzed his up-and-down performance as follows, “It is always difficult to play the first round in a tournament, especially in a Slam. I think I played well at times and in others I could do better, but I repeat that the first round is always very complex. I thank the audience who helped me a lot.”

“There were some fun exchanges, but there were also some exchanges where it was difficult to find rhythm. It was quite windy, however, for a first round I can be satisfied.” The audience was decisive: ” In the middle of the fifth set I started to enjoy the atmosphere. Without the audience today I might not have made it. I also like very long matches like today’s, but in the second round I will definitely try to close it out a little earlier.”
