F1, McLaren officially has a new driver: he takes Ricciardo’s place
McLaren has a new driver
Oscar Piastri has officially become a new Formula 1 driver and will race for McLaren starting in 2023.
After several rumors regarding the future of the 2001-born Australian, who was disputed between Alpine and McLaren, the CRB verdict has come in.
The FIA body, which oversees matters related to contracts between drivers and teams, announced, “Oscar Piastri’s only valid contract for 2023 and 2024 is the one signed with McLaren on July 4.”
Alpine commented on the CRB decision, “We take note of the CRB verdict. For us, the matter is closed. We will announce the driver pair for 2023 when the time comes.”
The Formula 3 world champion in 2020 and Formula 2 champion in 2021 will then make his debut in the top category with the British team and take the place of Daniel Ricciardo, who last week announced his farewell to McLaren at the end of the season.
