Gianmarco Pozzecco’s bitterness: ‘Italy one shot away from history’
There is no shortage of regrets, nor the knowledge that we were one step away from the feat.
Basketball Italy comes to a halt on 81-85 against Greece at the Mediolanum Forum. However, the defeat at the European Championships is made in part even more bitter for the Azzurri because of the great comeback in the fourth quarter, with ten points recovered from the formidable opponents.
“It was a great show. We did not give up and I am proud of my players,” coach Gianmarco Pozzecco admitted at the end of the game. “Probably another team would have given up in the third period…. Our goal in these two games we achieved it. We made our point. We came within a shot of history.”
Bitter but lucid was also Stefano Tonut’s comment: “We played a solid game, played with the right spirit. We are happy but it was not enough. We have to improve for the future.”
