The words of Gianmarco Tamberi

Two days, thirty-two diamonds to be awarded and a large Italian participation among the world stars of the Zurich final: the Wanda Diamond League celebrates the last act of its season in a double venue, in the square on the afternoon of Wednesday 7 (Sechseläutenplatz) and in the evening of Thursday 8 at Letzigrund, the temple of athletics.

The first day is already decisive for Olympic and European high jump champion Gianmarco Tamberi, competing as the reigning Diamond champion twelve months after his 2021 success: the Italian thus bids farewell to his own year, before leaving for his honeymoon with his Chiara. Also competing in the city event on Day 1 are Italian pole vault record holder Roberta Bruni and weightlifter Nick Ponzio. On Thursday, however, the stadium lights will be turned on for world bronze medalist in the high hurdles Elena Vallortigara, who earned direct qualification as did octocenter Elena Bellò. Olympic relay champion Fausto Desalu (200) and Italian 400hs record holder Ayomide Folorunso were also admitted to the finals due to some waivers. Italy is also in the pre-program with Davide Re’s 400 meters, and the presence of Yupun Abeykoon (100) and Andy Diaz (triple), who train in Castelporziano (Rome) and wear Italian club jerseys, should also be noted.
