F1, Charles Leclerc tries to see the glass half full
Reached by Gazzetta dello Sport, Charles Leclerc spoke ahead of the Monza Grand Prix: “We have a difficult weekend ahead of us, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. We have to stay determined and try to win even if it is a fast track that does not favor us. If we are perfect, we can do it.”
The last Ferrari to stand on the podium at Monza and win was his own: “That win made me realize that I could do it. I won in spite of the fact that I was under pressure from Monday, because the week at Monza is so long, and there was a crazy crowd cheering us on already on the eve of the race in Piazza Duomo. To have succeeded made me proud of myself. I was looking for my mother with my eyes in the crowd, trying to figure out where she was, but I couldn’t find her. Up there I was reminded of my early career and the sacrifices my parents made when I was a child to allow me to run, including my mother who often stayed home to take care of everyone.”
Leclerc then spoke about the title fight, “Unfortunately, the facts say we are far away now. But we have to keep our heads up. The season has been a step forward compared to previous ones, if we want to win the World Championship we need one more. Feeling equal to Max? Every rider is always convinced that he is the best, so I think so. I think it’s one of my best seasons in F1 But I keep pushing to improve further by working on myself. I think they have grown in performance. But we almost always fought for the win. Only the last two races, at Spa and Zandvoort, were really difficult.”
“Settling for winning just one World Championship with the red car? If the choice is between one World Championship or zero, then yes. But in truth, no. I want to win as many World Championships as possible with Ferrari. I will do everything for that to become a reality,” the Monegasque man summed up.
