During his interview with France Football, Anthony Martial disintegrated Jose Mourinho: “It all started with the story of the jersey number. During the vacations Mourinho sent me a message to ask if I wanted to switch to number 11, explaining that it is great because it was worn by Ryan Giggs, a club legend. I tell him I have the utmost respect for Giggs, but I prefer to keep the 9. When I came back instead it was number 11 under mine and it didn’t end well because he disrespected me.”

“He would talk about me in the press, little phrases, a bit like he had done with Benzema at Real Madrid. He likes these little games, but he also knows who to play them with. He knew that I was 20 years old then and that if I said anything I would come across as the disrespectful young man. So I said nothing, it would have been useless. In the next season I was the best on the team in the first part of the season, but he brought in Alexis Sanchez and from there I hardly played anymore.”

Also in Martial’s sights is Solskjaer: “People don’t know this but in the four months after the Covid season I sacrificed myself because the coach told me he needed me. It was not easy and he never bothered to say that, of course in the end I got permanently injured and when I came back I was no longer playing. I took it very badly and felt a sense of injustice, you are asked to sacrifice for the team and behind the scenes you get fired. For me it’s almost a betrayal. That’s all I hate.”
