F1 Monza, whistles to Max Verstappen: an apology is not enough
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen via team radio regrets controversial Italian GP finish
The Monza race that ended with a train behind the Safety Car also left a bitter taste in the mouth of Italian GP winner Max Verstappen, who via team radio apologized to the fans for the Federation’s mistake.
The controversial ending unnerved the tens of thousands of Ferraristi fans, who could not enjoy the final duel between Leclerc and Verstappen, who was then booed just after the race and on the podium. “Great race for us,” the Dutchman said after the race, “With every compound we were faster. The degradation was very good, we had a very good race car. Basically we were controlling the lead until the end. Then the SC came in and unfortunately we couldn’t restart. But overall it was a great day for us.”
“First podium in Monza? Yes, it took a while to get on a big podium like this, but we finally did it.”
