Carlos Alcaraz: “I realized I could win the Slam in the match against Jannik Sinner, it was the turning point.”

Carlos Alcaraz in an interview with Corriere della Sera returned to talk about his match with Jannik Sinner: “I realized I could win the Slam in the quarterfinal against him. A very tough match, I really don’t know how I played with that intensity. The match point canceled was the turning point-I think I pushed myself where I had never gone before, Jannik motivates me and I think I have the same effect on him, it’s a good and useful rivalry.”

“I could have won in three sets, he in four, instead we went to the fifth. Five hours and 20 minutes on the court, that doesn’t happen often! We respect each other and get along well off the court. His Spanish is so-so, my English mediocre, but we understand each other on the fly. Jannik is always friendly, he takes an interest: how are you? How is your family? As a player he’s in the public eye: he’s already beaten top 10s, he has a very heavy ball. But it’s the person, before the tennis player, that impressed me.”
