Matteo Berrettini settles Swede in two sets in first match with Scandinavians

A solid Matteo Berrettini gave Italy its first point in its Davis Cup group match against Sweden. The Roman tennis player beat Elias Ymer, number 119 in the world rankings, 6-4, 6-4 after an hour and a quarter of play.

Thanks to this success, Volandri’s team is definitely in first place in the group: in Malaga it will face the United States in the quarterfinals of the competition. Berrettini, very confident at the serve, never conceded break chances to his rival and held the reins of the match from the first to the last game, placing the decisive breaks in the ninth game of the first partial and in the fifth of the second. Now space for Sinner, on court against Mikael Ymer.

After the match, Berrettini expressed his satisfaction with the growth of the entire team: “We are building a very strong team on and off the court, let’s not forget Sonego who stayed home, and who is one of the pillars of this team, the captain can only summon five.
