Marc Marquez, shock comeback: “Already they accuse me…”
Return to the track to forget for Honda rider Marc Marquez in Aragon
Marc Marquez was expecting a totally different return to racing in Aragon after the several months of stop following his arm surgery. The Honda rider, who had shown positive signs in the first two days of the weekend in Spain, experienced a nightmarish first lap on Sunday, getting caught up in both Quartararo’s crash and Nakagami’s.
Both riders were not seriously injured, but the eight-time world champion immediately came into the crosshairs for what happened: “I want to clarify something, since the accusations against me have already started. Never in my life will I go against another driver in the middle of a straight, because I know what can happen on the first lap of a race. I have reviewed the episode with Nakagami and it seems that I go to the left in the middle of the straight and go to hit him – are the words of Marquez to Dazn -. Looking in detail at the images you can see that there is a piece of Fabio’s fairing at the height of my wheel. That’s why not only Nakagami, but also Marini and my brother almost hit me: because the rear wheel got stuck and the bike started to my left and was stopping.”
On what happened with Quartararo, Marquez responded as follows, “Fabio was trying to pass me in Turn 4, that’s why he was so close. It was a very unfortunate episode, he wanted to overtake me and the bike skidded a little bit behind.”
“I would have preferred to make a bad start and finish the race, the goal for me is to accumulate kilometers, I felt comfortable on the bike. Now I put Japan in my sights.”
