World Cycling Championships, big disappointment for Filippo Ganna in the time trial
The winner held an average speed of 51.241 km/h
Big disappointment for Filippo Ganna at the Cycling World Championships being held in Wollongong, Australia. In the time trial race, the Italian (defending champion) never found his rhythm, ending the event with a mediocre seventh place. Already from the first intermediate, it was clear that Filippo Ganna did not have the right pace to compete with the best on the track. The Italian champion abdicates after successes in Imola 2020 and Bruges 2021.
Victory went to Norway’s Tobias Foss who crossed the finish line in 40′ 02″ 780, averaging 51.241 km/h. Only 3″ behind Swiss Stefan Kung who, for much of the race, looked like he could close in first place. Closing out the podium was Remco Evenepoel (winner of the Vuelta).
