Honeyed words from new Atp No. 1 for Jannik Sinner
New Atp No. 1 and fresh U.S. Open winner Carlos Alcaraz spoke to the media on the sidelines of a BMW event.
The Spaniard had some honeyed words for Jannik Sinner, labeling him as one of the tennis players he most appreciates, “Who would I choose from the current and next generation of tennis players? I choose Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner.”
Alcaraz went on to recount the joy of winning his first Slam: “Ever since I was a child I dreamed of becoming number one and winning the Grand Slam, but now I want to keep dreaming and continue to achieve new goals.”
Carlos Alcaraz is a Spanish tennis player, class of 2003. He began playing tennis at the age of three, inspired by Spanish champion Rafael Nadal, to date winner of 22 Slam titles. He won his first Atp tournament in Umag, Croatia, in 2021. After an irresistible rise, he wins his first Grand Slam title, at the US Open, in 2022. With his victory in the U.S., he gains the top spot in the Atp rankings, becoming the youngest tennis player in history to achieve the feat, at age 19 years 4 months and 7 days.
