Roger Federer makes surprising announcement about Matteo Berrettini
Roger Federer makes official that he will not play singles at Laver Cup: in his place Matteo Berrettini
No singles match for Roger Federer at the Laver Cup: the Swiss star’s last match will be in doubles, probably together with his friend Rafael Nadal. This was announced by the Swiss champion himself at the opening press conference of the London competition.
“It is clear that the most beautiful thing would be to play doubles here with Nadal because it was my greatest rivalry. As long as we fought against each other, we always got along very well. I think that’s the best message we have given. The Laver Cup is an ATP event, I know my limits.”
In Federer’s place in the singles match will be Matteo Berrettini for Europe: “Bjorn Borg talked to John McEnroe and he told me it was okay; Matteo Berrettini will play in my place in singles on Saturday. I’m trying to prepare for one last doubles match. I’m nervous because I haven’t played in a long time; I hope I can be competitive.”
