Immobile returns home

It was supposed to be the matches of redemption in the Azzurri for Ciro Immobile, who after the disappointment of not qualifying for the World Cup had nevertheless answered ‘present’ to Roberto Mancini’s call for the last matches of the Nations League round, but a muscle injury ruined the plans of the Lazio striker, who was forced to return home due to a muscle injury.

“The player Ciro Immobile,” reads the note released Sunday by the Figc, “underwent clinical and instrumental tests in Milan this morning that confirmed his unavailability for tomorrow’s match in Hungary. Immobile, however, reached Malpensa airport with the team, where on the flight arriving from Rome the group was reunited with the coach, who had returned to the capital last night in order to vote this morning.”

“The coach Mancini,” the Federcalcio continued in the statement, “while appreciating the willingness of the player, having noted what had emerged from the instrumental investigations, chose to let the Azzurri center forward return to his home club to continue the appropriate treatment. The assessments performed were, as is always the case, shared with the club’s medical staff.”
