F1, Fernando Alonso: “Fighting with McLaren was a dream at the beginning of the year.”

Alonso impressed by Alpine

The two-time world champion commented on Alpine’s crazy performance so far, fourth in the Constructors’ championship: “Really impressive. I think in Bahrain and in winter testing we started a little bit worried. We had some ups and downs in terms of performance. But I think the team has grown a lot compared to Australia and Jeddah, and the engine has also improved a lot compared to last year.”

And yes, at the beginning of this season, it still looked like a disaster for Alpine, plagued by reliability problems and unlucky: “But we have more power than last year, so we accept it. Now we are fighting with McLaren in the constructors’ championship and that was maybe a bit of a dream at the beginning of the year, so I think we are outperforming what we thought we were,” the former Ferrari driver lamented.
