Three stages of the Giro 2023 on Abruzzo soil: starts with an 18 km time trial

The Giro d’Italia 2023 will start from Abruzzo. Announcing the places that will host the Grand Departure of next year’s Corsa Rosa were the contact persons of RCS Sport, which organizes the Giro, together with local political authorities in L’Aquila, in the Renzo Piano Auditorium.

Opening the dances on May 6 will be an 18.4-kilometer individual time trial on the Costa dei Trabocchi from Fossacesia Marina (almost entirely on the bike path) to Ortona. The second fraction will be suitable for sprinters and will take the peloton from Teramo to San Salvo. The next day the caravan will greet Abruzzo with a stage that will start from Vasto heading south before returning to the territory on Friday, May 12 with the seventh stage that will end on the Gran Sasso d’Italia (Campo Imperatore).

For the fourth year in a row, Abruzzo will host an uphill finish. It should be noted that on the last two occasions the stage winner, Egan Bernal at Campo Felice in 2021 and Jai Hindley at Blockhaus in 2022, also won the Giro d’Italia. The presentation of the teams will be held in the days leading up to the first stage in Pescara’s Piazza Salotto.
