Jannik Sinner gets off to the best possible start in his title defense in Sofia
Sinner defeated Nuno Borges in two sets.
Jannik Sinner’s defense of the Atp 250 tournament title in Sofia, where the South Tyrolean tennis player has triumphed in the last two editions, is off to the best possible start. Also on Bulgarian cement, the Italian found his first career victory in November 2020.
The 2001-year-old Italian, number ten in the world, won in two sets (6-3, 6-4) over Portuguese holder Nuno Borges, currently ranked No. 93 in the Atp rankings, in the match that was valid for the round of 16.
The South Tyrolean managed to make the most of one break point per set, imposing himself without too much effort on his opponent, thus continuing his run-up to the Atp Finals in Turin.
Sinner now awaits the winner of the match between Spain’s Fernando Verdasco and Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic in the quarterfinals.
