Tel Aviv, Novak Djokovic wins struggling more than expected
Novak Djokovic advances to semifinals in Tel Aviv, but not without struggle
After strolling through the first round against Spain’s Pablo Andujar, Novak Djokovic has to sweat a lot more in the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 Tel Aviv.
The defending Wimbledon champion needed nearly two hours of play to end the resistance of Canadian Vasek Pospisil. 7-6 6-3 the final score in favor of the Belgrade tennis player.
A very balanced first set that followed the service turns (not a single break ball was seen) and ended in the tie-break, won by the Serbian by 7 points to 5. In the second partial Nole immediately ran away 3-0 but was caught up at 3-3 by the Canadian. From there, however, Djokovic strung together 3 consecutive games and closed the file.
The 21-time Slam winner thus enters the semifinals of the tournament where he will take on Russian Roman Safiullin.
