Zaniolo and Pellegrini sign the comeback: Roma advance in Europa League
Roma beats Ludogorets and passes the round
Jose Mourinho’s Roma advance to the Europa League round of 16 and do so in a comeback against Bulgarians Ludogorets.
The Giallorossi started well, coming close to taking the lead first with Lorenzo Pellegrini and then with El Shaarawy but then their opponents came out and went ahead at the end of the first half thanks to a goal scored by Rick Lima, on a sleep by the Capitoline defense.
In the second half, Roma managed to overturn the result mainly thanks to its captain and Nicolò Zaniolo: the number 22 of the Giallorossi’s lineup, in the 53rd, earned the first penalty, which Pellegrini converted. After the equalizer, Mourinho’s men went on the assault to find the qualifying goal, which arrived in the 63rd, again on a cue from Zaniolo, who was again landed in the box. It is again Pellegrini who scores from the eleven meters.
After the great fear of the 2-2 goal, which would have eliminated the Giallorossi from the Europa League, cancelled out by the match director, Roma closed out the game in the 85th, with yet another Zaniolo breakaway.
