Gollini crisis, Vincenzo Italiano has made his choice

Redemption of the extreme defender now appears as a mirage

Protagonist of a nightmarish start to the season, tainted by indecision on the first day of the championship against Cremonese, but especially by mistakes in both Conference League matches against Istanbul Basaksehir, Pierluigi Gollini is certainly not confirming the high expectations placed on his account.

The loan formula under which he arrived in Florence from Atalanta – on a temporary basis, with a simple right of redemption – is by no means a guarantee of a lasting stay in Tuscany. In the Viola’s last European match, the one against Rigas, the former Atalanta man, so far an ever-present in European cups, ended up on the bench to make way for Pietro Terracciano, who undermined him from the posts as early as the fourth day of the championship.

The Conference League, the only occasion when Gollini could have convinced coach Vincenzo Italiano to change his mind about him, now goes into hibernation until February. With the doors of tenure now closed in Serie A, for the goalkeeper the possibility of redemption by the purple leadership is becoming more and more distant.
