Lorenzo Musetti: coach explains collapse with Novak Djokovic
Musetti coach Tartarini: “The first two games were decisive.”
Lorenzo Musetti’s coach, Simone Tartarini, to OaSport explained the Carrarese tennis player’s collapse against Novak Djokovic in Paris-Bercy.
The Azzurro, who had been outstanding in the previous round against Ruud, almost gave up without a fight in the first set against Nole, waking up too late: “Facing a player like Djokovic is different than facing him against Ruud, not only because of the technical difficulties he proposes, but from an emotional point of view. I think he put too much pressure on himself, also because of the expectations created by the victories in previous matches.”
According to Tartarini, the match was decided in the first two games: “In the match against Djokovic, the same thing did not happen against Auger-Aliassime. In Florence he had really had a physical problem at the stomach level. In Paris, on the other hand, he was marked by how Nole was able to attack him right away, giving him the feeling that he didn’t have the tennis to do anything. The way he lost the turn on serve, without hurting him as much as he would have thought, partly thanks to some phenomenal answers, so discouraged him that he struggled to regain his edge.”
Now there is hope for redemption in Davis: “We are very keen to do well in Malaga and Lorenzo wants to be ready to make an important contribution.”
