F1, Ferrari: Carlos Sainz reveals “what matters” for season finale
Carlos Sainz spoke ahead of the Brazilian GP.
In the usual Thursday press conference, Carlos Sainz also spoke ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix, the penultimate round of the Formula 1 championship.
“We are aiming for second place in the constructors, and this represents our priority, I would say this is the thing that matters, beyond the reasoning that can be done about budget cap, wind tunnel,” explained the Ferrari driver.
“The first part of the season was difficult for me, because I could not adapt to the car. Then it got better, but there were still reliability problems. After that we found the pace, and thanks to the great work done by the engineers I was able to learn a lot. Mexico was an anomalous race, but now we are focused on the last two. We want to find the pace again to fight with Red Bull and Mercedes. The goal is to have clean weekends to better prepare for 2023,” Sainz continued.
Carlos Sainz Jr., was born in Madrid on September 1, 1994. He is the son of driver Carlos Sainz, a two-time world rally champion and three-time winner of the Dakar Rally. Despite his father’s successes on dirt roads, Carlos immediately opted for Formula 1, making his debut in 2015 driving a Toro Rosso. After two seasons with the current AlphaTauri, one in Renault and one in McLaren, Sainz officially became a Ferrari driver in 2021. Wearing the colors of the Maranello-based stable, the Spaniard took the first career pole position at Silverstone on July 2, 2022, and the next day he scored his first career victory in Formula 1 at the end of a race masterfully conducted in adverse weather conditions. With his success in Britain, Sainz became the second Spanish driver to win a GP in F1, after only Fernando Alonso.
