Alberto Puig recoils after disappointing Valencia tests
Marc Marquez’s disappointment after the Valencia tests is shared by Honda team principal Alberto Puig, who, if he had already admitted at the end of the tests the need to “improve in everything,” now he has stepped up his dose in a statement released by the Japanese team.
“We have been working hard since the Misano tests, but unfortunately we have not yet found everything we were looking for. We have to keep looking for what we want. Now it’s time to prepare for the Sepang test. Marc said he has to take one step and HRC has to take two steps if we want to fight for the title in 2023. And I ask for three steps. We need three steps to be on the right track, to find the right direction.”
“Certainly in Japan they have worked very hard, there is no doubt,” Puig continued. “It is clear and we know that, but unfortunately we have not been able to find the right direction. All our engineers, not only in Japan but also in Europe, are working and testing. We have confidence in them and hope that we can meet our expectations and deliver a competitive bike in Sepang.”
Finally, he commented on the debut of Joan Mir and Alex Rins with Honda: “For a rider debuting with another team, it is difficult to get a deep and precise understanding of the bike with just one day of riding. But they tried, I’m sure what they found is very different from what they are used to, and now they will thoroughly examine what they did.”
