Former Italian tennis player Paolo Lorenzi spoke to Sportal.it’s microphones on the sidelines of the presentation of the Atp Finals (scheduled Nov. 13-20 in Turin) and the Davis Cup finals (Nov. 22-27 in Malaga), both of which will be broadcast live by Sky and streamed on NOW.

While there will be no Italian bigwigs among the Finals starters this year, Italian tennis is eagerly awaiting the Davis Cup fixture that will see Italy make its debut against the fearsome United States. “I think we are among the early favorites in the competition, along with unfortunately the United States, which we will face right at the start,” Lorenzi explained.

“I believe that with Sinner and Berrettini in condition, and with Musetti who has shown growth, and a doubles like Bolelli-Fognini we finally have our chances to win. We can finally cheer.”

Fritz, back from Atp Finals fatigue, can be a factor: “It may well be that he has a drop after a major tournament. It’s important for our people to be in good physical condition, and then at that point we won’t have to worry so much about our opponents.”

On the team hierarchy: “Captain Volandri proved it in Bologna, at the moment there is a hierarchy and Berrettini and Sinner are the singles players, if any of them are not at their best there is Musetti. This will be the idea for Malaga as well, and we hope to have them all in condition.”

Women’s tennis and Camila Giorgi: “The hope is that she can come back and win a 1000 again, meanwhile we had Trevisan’s semifinal in Paris this year, also the women’s movement has done something good indeed more than something. Hopefully Camila and the other girls will have a great season.”
