Fernando Alonso pays dearly for sparks at the start of the Sprint Race with Ocon

The duel between Alpine drivers Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon enlivened the first lap of the Sprint Race of the Brazilian GP: the two came into contact twice, finishing in the last positions.

The race commission decided to penalize the two-time world champion with a five-second penalty and two points on his license for the maneuver on the straight: “Alonso was totally at fault for the collision, at a particularly fast point of the track.” The Asturian, who finished 15th in the Sprint Race, will thus instead start from 18th on the grid.

After the race Alonso was very hard on Ocon in the press conference, “One more race and then it will all be over, finally. I was very close to the wall in Jeddah with him, close to the wall in Budapest, today in Turn 4 … It’s been like that all year.”
