Hellas Verona-Spezia 1-2

Spezia’s win at the Bentegodi against Hellas Verona, which remains pinned in last place in the standings with just 5 points, 10 consecutive defeats, further and further away from Serie A. A Nzola double put back Simone Verdi’s goal gave the Ligurians three crucial points for salvation, now on 13 points in the standings, +6 from the relegation zone. Now the World Cup break, they will resume on January 4, 2023 with Torino-Verona, Spezia-Atalanta. Before the match, the Curva Sud, the heart of the Gialloblù fans, distributed a very harsh leaflet against the corporate management of President Maurizio Setti.

First half. Evenly balanced match that Lasagna tries to break in the 13th minute: well launched into the net, on one-on-one with the extreme Dragowski, he lets off a diagonal shot that ends up on the side to the desperation of the Gialloblù fans. Close-range reply signed Ekdal from the limit: Montipò deflects in the dive. De Paoli steals the ball and centers from the left, Lasagna immolates himself, the crossbar is too high to hit the ball well. The match livens up, Montipò is forced to come out hastily to foil a nice offensive combination by Spezia. Lazovic from the edge, feint counter feint, low shot, ball just wide of the post. 29′: Verona takes the lead through Simone Verdi, good at finalizing a suggestion from Lasagna projected into the net, Verona-Spezia 1-0 to the delight of the Bentegodi. 37′: Lasagna and goalkeeper Dragowski come into contact in the Ligurian three-quarter, the keeper has the worst of it, who leaves on a stretcher, then immediately to the hospital for checks. Dramatic injury. Gotti inserts Zoet. On the flip side: scrum in the Verona area, Spezia players claim a hand foul, the referee lets it slide. Another opportunity for Lasagna, good at anticipating the direct opponent in the area but his conclusion makes sky high. Six minutes of recovery time due to the earlier collision. Nzola takes the Scaligera defense for a ride, not Montipò, who was miraculous in deflecting for a corner. From which comes a new opportunity and a new save by the extreme yellow-blue. Pushes the host formation, Montipò says no to Holm as well. Verona suffers but does not give up. Everyone in the locker room.

Second half. Hien in for Verona, Daniele Verde in for Spezia. Not a minute passes that De Paoli pops up at the second post, his underhand shot ends up in the corner. The Ligurians don’t stop and reach a well-deserved equalizer: Nzola from the edge (8′), angled low shot, nothing for Montipò to do, Verona-Spezia 1-1 to the delight of the 400 La Spezia fans. Lasagna has the ball for 2-1: he does everything right, enters the area but sees his shot rejected by Zoet. No stoppage time. Ball on the other front, Montipò in the corner. Henry in for Hellas, Bourabia in for Spezia. The Ligurian formation believes in the breakthrough, keeping the whole of Verona apprehensive in their own area in several situations. Montipò rises to the fore, deflecting Bastioni’s close-range conclusion with his foot. New corner in the 24th minute: the usual Nzola jumps higher than anyone, ball in the net, Verona-Spezia 1-2. In comes Doing and Kallon in Hellas. Montipò keeps afloat a Verona team in confusion that rears its head again with Ceccherini, underhand touch on Veloso’s free kick: ball over the crossbar with an empty goal. Terracciano in Verona, Nikolau and Ellertsson also entered. Five minutes of recovery, Hellas heads down but the result does not change: Hellas-Spezia 1-2.
