F1, Ferrari: Binotto perplexed

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto showed all his perplexity at seeing a Mercedes, fresh from the Russell-Hamilton one-two in the Brazilian Grand Prix, that managed to close the gap with Ferrari, thanks to the package of upgrades grafted in Austin and then fixed in Mexico. The Rossa, on the other hand, halted its upgrades in Singapore, having no more money to put into the project.

“I don’t know how much it helps to understand,” the Maranello executive explained. “I remember we were at Imola when I said we were concerned about the budget cap and how it would be controlled, because the financial one is a whole new regulation that still needs some adjustments. Then it’s clear that I’m surprised as well to see teams that manage to develop for the whole season….”

“We can only rely on the FIA and their inspectors to seriously check everyone’s accounts. That said, the results on 2022 we will have next year. You cannot wait for October 2023: that was the case this year, but I hope the FIA will increase the inspectors, because you cannot wait for October to get answers. And I say this for the Sport: it would be a shame if some teams exceeded the spending cap. And to see that other teams are developing so much in the season some doubt can come,” Binotto concluded, as reported by Motorsport.com.
