Ferrari, Charles Leclerc sends message to Carlos Sainz: “I was a bit lonely”
“We have to maximize the result, we have to cooperate.”
Charles Leclerc sent a message to Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz after his third time in qualifying at the Abu Dhabi GP. The Monegasque is in the midst of a race for second place in the standings, while the Maranello-based team is playing for second place in the constructors’ championship with Mercedes: “It will be a close battle with Perez, that’s for sure. Team games? Carlos and I will also be able to work together and try to maximize the team result.”
“I couldn’t do much more today, unfortunately I was a little bit alone on the track and I didn’t have anyone in front,” Leclerc pointed out to the team. “In the second sector I would have preferred someone in front because it was struggling on its own, however, it was our choice to have an out lap without cars in front. Maybe we paid a little bit.”
The driver from the Principality wants to end 2022 with dignity: “The important thing is above all the second place among the Constructors. Then I will go on vacation, rest, and come back next year hoping to do even better.”
Carlos Sainz is hopeful for Sunday: “The important thing is that the pace is there, I am fast, and tomorrow we start in a good position. Today we took a step forward compared to yesterday. In the race we sometimes struggle, but we will try. Red Bull is strong this weekend, but Mercedes starts behind. We will have a chance to beat Mercedes and finish second in the constructors.”
