The 2022 edition of the Nitto ATP Finals just concluded in Turin brings Novak Djokovic back into the Top 5. The 35-year-old Serb, who equaled Roger Federer’s record of six “Masters” titles and became the oldest champion on the tournament’s roll of honor, with the clear path to the Finals ended the season as world No. 5.
Djokovic and Nadal, world No. 2, are the only Over 30s in the season-ending Top 10 in which stands out teenager Carlos Alcaraz, the youngest world No. 1 since the computerized ranking has existed (1973). And still on the subject of teenagers, slipping just outside the Top 10, in 11th place, is Denmark’s Holger Rune, who has gained 92 ranking positions in less than twelve months, having started the year as number 103-his is the most notable leap forward in the rankings among the world’s current Top 40. Among the Top 50, Rune is surpassed only by Jack Draper, the first Briton to participate in the Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals this year in Milan, who jumped from number 259 to 42, gaining 217 positions.
