F1, Ferrari: Carlos Sainz has clear ideas for 2023
Carlos Sainz speaks out ahead of next season
Carlos Sainz gave a lengthy interview to Dazn España in which he took stock of the season that just ended and showed that he has clear ideas ahead of the next one.
“I would have signed the victory, but I would not have signed the rest of the year before,” explained Sainz. “It was a complicated season, full of mishaps and difficult moments. The beginning was particularly complicated. The truth is that I did not expect to suffer so much with the new car. But I knew how to recover and I never gave up. In the final part I again made very good performances, feeling comfortable. I think what I saw at the end should be my base level and with which I can strive for many more things next year.”
He then recalled the best moment of the season: “My best memory of the year is the win at Silverstone. It is the aspect that I was most excited about and left me with last season. Then, it was also great to finish second in Bahrain, but the incredible thing was to see the happiness in Ferrari for the one-two finish. After two difficult years this moment came, and I have never seen a team as happy as ours on that day. And the pole position in Austin. I came close for several races and finally came out on top.”
Charles Leclerc’s teammate then made a prediction ahead of next season: “Next year will again be a struggle with six drivers (Max Verstappen, Checo Pérez, Charles Leclerc, Sainz himself, Russell and Lewis Hamilton) and three cars (Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes).”
Finally, he seemed confident about what the Maranello stable will need in 2023: “I hope we will have a competitive car again. All I ask is that we can fight to win again. And that we have a reliable engine with the same or more power as this year to get closer to Red Bull in the straights. And, finally, to be the team with the most development.”
