Davis Cup, Fognini-Bolelli to scream: Italy is in semifinals
Davis Cup: Italy advances to semifinals
Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli lead Italy into the Davis Cup semifinals. The experienced Italian pair beat the fearsome American duo of Tommy Paul and Jack Sock with a double 6-4 win.
In the first set, the Azzurri started off strong right away and got two break points in the opening game but failed to materialize. On serve they proceeded swiftly, conceding crumbs to their opponents until, at 4-4, on the sixth break opportunity they hit the jackpot leading Simone to serve for the set. Boleli did not tremble and Italy made the first set theirs 6-4.
In the second set comes the first break point for the Americans but it is promptly nullified by the Azzurri who in the seventh game break Sock with a winning backhand response from Bolelli. From there it was a formality to maintain the break until the end with Fognini who, called to serve for the match, closed to zero with the final ace, sealing the second 6-4.
Italy returns to the Davis Cup semifinals after eight years and will face the winner of the match between Canada and Germany on Saturday.
