Colombia in shock over death of young Atletico Tucuman defender
Colombia in shock: Andres Balanta, an Atletico Tucuman defender on loan from Deportivo Cali, with whom he won the national title last season, has died at just 22 years old.
The young center forward suffered an illness during Tuesday’s training session with his team and fell unconscious to the ground. Immediately rescued, he passed away a few hours later in the hospital.
“Atletico Tucuman regrets to confirm the death of Colombian footballer Andres Balanta. We embrace and accompany with deep respect your family and friends at this time,” is Atletico Tucuman’s announcement. Balanta had played for Colombia’s Olympic national team in Tokyo 2020.
