Lukaku misses everything: Croatia holds out and eliminates Belgium. Morocco surprise first
The Red Devils are eliminated from the World Cup
First surprise verdict of the World Cup in Qatar: in Group F, Morocco took first place ahead of Croatia. Eliminated were the Red Devils of Belgium, who had made it all the way to the semifinals in the last edition of the rainbow event.
In the first half it was Croatia that had the ball in their hands, which even had a penalty kick in its favor revoked for a pinpoint offside, with Modric who was already ready on the penalty spot. In the second half, Roberto Martinez’s men pushed with great insistence, managing to keep the pace high but failing to get past the Croatian defense: clamorous were the three chances that fell at the feet of Romelu Lukaku, who three times failed with the goal practically unguarded.
In the other match, Morocco overcame Canada, already eliminated, 2-1 thanks to goals from Chelsea player Hakim Ziyech and Sevilla’s En-Nesyri. The North Africans thus succeeded in the feat of qualifying for the round of 16 as the first force in the group.
