Mexico flops, el Tata Martino says goodbye
Tricolor coach says goodbye after three years
Gerardo Martino has confirmed his farewell as Mexico’s technical commissioner after the Tricolor’s elimination from the World Cup in Qatar.
“There is no reason now for me to think that the future should be any other way. The contract expired when the referee whistled the end of the game. There is nothing to be done,” Martino explained to North American media after the bitter victory against Saudi Arabia in the last match of the Group. El Tata had been in charge since 2019.
Mexico failed to qualify for the round of 16 at the World Cup for the first time since 1990.
