Ferrari, Leclerc confesses, “Hard to accept what happened”
Leclerc: “We were back ahead of Red Bull in Spain.”
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, reviewing the Cavallino’s season confessed some regrets for the 2022 World Championship: “I’m not a driver who criticizes harshly in public, but in meetings I push the team forward, that’s my job.”
The Monegasque at the microphones of Auto Motor und Sport pointed the finger at the updates: “The innovations we had brought in Spain as well as working had put us back ahead of Red Bull, but we had a problem with the power unit. In Monaco we made a mistake with the strategy and in Baku we stopped again. Then in Canada, however, there was the penalty to be served on the grid. We had the speed to win, but we failed to materialize a technically positive moment. It was difficult to accept.”
In the second half of the World Championship, Red Bull then took the lead: “Red Bull, especially after the summer break, took a step forward for some reason and especially with Max, not as much with Sergio. We don’t think we lost more from the porpoising technical directive. There is a time link between its introduction and the loss of speed on our part, however, to be honest, we don’t think it has anything to do with it. It is Red Bull that has become stronger with the upgrades.”
