Germany, Thomas Muller abdicates
Thomas Muller says goodbye to Germany
Germany’s second consecutive elimination in the group stage of the World Cup has left a great disappointment in all German fans. The victory with Costa Rica was not enough to put a now compromised group back on its feet after the resounding loss to Japan in the opener and the draw with Spain. Those who really did not expect such an epilogue is a legend of this national team, Thomas Muller, who announced his farewell at the end of the match: “It was an extraordinary gift. Dear people, thank you from the bottom of my heart. We had incredible moments together.”
“This should have been my last game for Germany. I would like to say a few words to all the German fans who have accompanied me over the years. I tried in every game to keep my heart on the field. I did it with love. You can be sure of that,” concluded the Bayern Munich striker.
Muller, a major player in Germany’s World Cup triumph in Brazil in 2014 with five goals, leaves Germany at the age of 33, with 120 appearances collected and 44 total goals.
