André Ayew, shock message: ‘I lost my godson before playing’

The Ghanaian striker on social media recounted his drama

Ghana striker Andre Ayew with a post on Instagram recounted the personal drama that preceded the World Cup match played against Portugal: “It has been a very difficult time for me in the past few days. I lost my godson the morning before the game with Portugal, and my daughter was also rushed to the hospital after Uruguay. Thanks to Almighty Allah, she is getting better. These difficult times will inspire me to come back stronger and better in the future, and so I believe the Black Stars will.”

Ayew was substituted at halftime of the match against Uruguay specifically to go to the hospital for his daughter, who fell ill during the first half: “The result of the round was not what we were expecting in the tournament, but unfortunately it ended like that. I am very, very proud of all my teammates for putting up a wonderful team spirit on and off the field for our country, Ghana.”
