Ferrari and Formula 1 in mourning: died Patrick Tambay
The former French driver passed away at the age of 73.
Formula 1 and Ferrari mourn the passing of Patrick Tambay, a former French driver who raced in the premier class of motorsport from 1977 to 1986.
As reported by his family, Tambay passed away at the age of 73 after suffering for years from Parkinson’s disease. Born in Paris in 1949, he raced in F1 in the single-seaters of McLaren, Ligier, Ferrari, and Renault: at Maranello he replaced Gilles Villeneuve in 1982 after the Zolder tragedy, winning the German Grand Prix and finishing third at Silverstone.
In 1983, still with Ferrari, he won at Imola, finishing fourth at the end of the year in the drivers’ standings.
