France too strong: Giroud and Mbappé knock out Poland
France’s great performance against Poland: Didier Deschamps’ men outclassed Lewandowski and his teammates and clinched the victory thanks to Kylian Mbappè’s double and Olivier Giroud’s goal.
In the first half, the French were much more aggressive than their opponents who still had a giant chance with Zielinksi, defused by first Lloris and then Varane. Olivier Giroud unlocked the result: twisting into the box and the ball into the back of the net. The reigning world champions also started the second half better and managed to double it in the 74th minute thanks to Kylian Mbappeè’s marker, who struck the hat-trick in the 90th minute with a beautiful shot on the turn.
Rather peculiar what happened in the dying minutes: Upamecano caused a penalty kick for a hand foul, from the penalty spot came Lewandowski who, however, was hypnotized by Lloris. The referee had the penalty repeated because some player had entered the area before the shot was taken, and the Barcelona bomber managed to score.
