Zlatan Ibrahimovic ‘rediscovers’ himself as altruistic: “It counts as a goal”
“There are some players who only aim for the goal, but for me so you don’t enjoy the same way.”
Among the protagonists of the third episode of the “On the pitch” format, produced by Milan TV, Zlatan Ibrahimovic spoke in depth about the importance of the assist in the game of soccer and his direct personal experience. Curious anecdotes were told by the Swedish star, who is pawing at a return to the pitch that could take place as early as the first matches of 2023.
“I always ask young people if alone in front of the goalkeeper with a teammate they prefer to score or make an assist. If they answer me ‘score,’ I tell them that ‘with me it’s difficult for you to play,’ because the assist is worth as much as a goal, that has to be the right mentality. Then there are players who only aim for the goal, but for me that way you don’t enjoy the same, you are not complete, you are more complete if you bring a teammate to your level,” Ibra began.
“I am someone who wants to help others in every way, I don’t have the ego or the presumption of wanting to do everything on my own. I’m here at Milan to give everything, to help my teammates improve, to succeed and to understand what we do: it’s a sacrifice, a work and a commitment to win, it’s not like we do it to waste time. When you make an assist it’s like having scored a goal. I do everything to help. Even when I’m older, it’s still okay,” he concludes with a smile.
