Cagliari, market backstory on a Genoa player: confirmation
Stefano Capozucca spills the beans: he wanted a footballer at Cagliari
Reached by Il Secolo XIX, Stefano Capozucca had his say on the great championship so far played by Frosinone: “I am not surprised because at the beginning of the season I had said that four teams for me were to be considered in the running for Serie A: Genoa, Cagliari, Frosinone and Parma. Frosinone is the most B team of the bunch, well built by an experienced manager like Angelozzi and with a president I consider a friend like Stirpe. He is a great president, he had extended my contract at Frosinone after a year as a consultant but I said nothing to him and went back to Genoa putting him in front of a fait accompli. I did not behave well, I regretted it because he did not deserve it.”
Glance, then, at Genoa: “Gilardino is a good guy, he deserves it. And he also came to Genoa with me. It was a long negotiation with Corvino, then at Fiorentina: he was an already established player and it was not easy to bring him to Genoa but we succeeded. Coda has done well so far but he can do even better, he has to be put in the conditions to be the bomber that everyone knows. And then I point to Aramu, I don’t hide that I would have liked to bring him to Cagliari but I couldn’t because I lacked the money. I saw him against Sudtirol, he showed how decisive he can become.”
For the Genoa bench, Gasperini’s name has also been mentioned: “I don’t know if it is true I don’t exclude anything. Gasperini loves Genoa, he has remained very attached to this team. If the Grifone wanted to bet on him again he would make the best choice, look at what Piero has done in these years with Atalanta. And let’s not forget that he took Genoa to Europe twice.”
